O’Connor to appeal ban - Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Cork’s Donnacha O’Connor is set to appeal his four-week suspension handed down to him by the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) on Monday. O’Connor received a straight red card from referee Joe McQuillan for lightly slapping Kerry’s Aidan O’Mahony’s across the face during Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final at Croke Park. Afterwards, O’Mahony fell to the floor dramatically and the Cork attacker was given his marching orders by the Cavan referee. Now Cork County Board chairman Mick Dolan has confirmed that O’Connor will receive the full backing of the board over appealing the month’s ban.

Cork & Kerry replay confirmed for Sunday - Monday, August 25, 2008
Cork and Kerry will replay their All-Ireland SFC semi-final next Sunday as part of a triple header at Croke Park. The Munster rivals played out an entertaining 3-07 to 1-13 draw on Sunday afternoon and will now meet for the third time this season with a 2pm throw-in at headquarters. The other football semi-final between surprise package Wexford and Ulster giants Tyrone is scheduled to follow after the conclusion of the replay at 4pm. The minor semi-final between Tyrone and Meath will bring the curtain up on the day's play at 12.15pm. The GAA also confirmed that the replay of the All-Ireland Minor Championship semi-final between Mayo and Kerry is scheduled for Cusack Park in Ennis on Saturday 30 August at 3.30pm.

Cork 3-07 Kerry 1-13 - Sunday, August 24, 2008
A 72nd-minute penalty goal from John Hayes ensured Cork and Kerry must meet again for a replay following a pulsating All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park. Despite Cork conceding a 14th-minute goal from Daniel Goulding, Kerry held a deserved 1-05 to 1-04 interval lead, after Kieran Donaghy immediately responded with a goal for the Kingdom. The second half began badly for Kerry when Darragh Ó Sé received a straight red card in the 37th minute - having previously seen red against the Rebels in the Munster decider. However, Kerry failed to be effected by their numerical disadvantage with points from Donnacha Walsh and Bryan Sheehan stretching the Kingdom's lead to four points by the 46th minute. If Pat O'Shea's charges were failing to crumble despite being a man down, Cork also played some of their best football following the 50th minute dismissal of Donnacha O'Connor.

Cork keep the faith as Canty and Murphy miss out - Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Conor Counihan has opted to stick with the same 15 players that overcame Kildare ahead of this Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final with rivals Kerry. It means that both Nicholas Murphy (hamstring) and Graham Canty (foot) are left out of the starting line-up through injury, with both Michael Cussen and star forward James Masters maintaining their places at full-forward and centre-forward respectively. There is one positional change to the side with Anthony Lynch and Diarmuid Duggan switching corners in the full-back line. Pat O’Shea is expected to announce his Kerry team this evening (Wednesday)

Cummins’ goal sends Tribesmen into decider - Sunday, August 17, 2008
Galway took their place in the All-Ireland MHC final against Kilkenny after seeing off the challenge of Cork by four points at Croke Park on Sunday. Richard Cummins proved decisive for the Tribesmen on the afternoon, with a tally of 1-5 from play that ultimately sunk any chance for the Rebels after the teams had been level ten times in the opening 40 minutes. In an inseparable first-half the sides were equal eight times, totalling their tallies for the game’s opening half-hour. Daniel Roche opened the scoring after two minutes for the Rebels when he gathered possession at his centre-field position and lashing over before Niall Burke levelled for Galway a minute later.

Award for Pearse O’Neill - Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Cork senior footballer Pearse O’Neill was presented with the 96FM/C103 Cork GAA Sports Star of the month award for July in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel It was an exciting month for the county with the hurlers and footballers turning in some outstanding displays, but Pearse’s contribution to the Munster Final win over Kerry earned him the nod from the judges and it was well deserved. Mick Dolan Chairman of the Cork County Board congratulated Pearse on his award and for the manner in which he has played for Cork since establishing himself on the team and hopefully on Sunday in Croke Park he will continue with that good form.

Kerry-Cork semi-final won’t be moved - Wednesday, August 13, 2008
GAA president Nickey Brennan has poured cold water on suggestions that the All-Ireland football semi-final between Kerry and Cork would be moved out of Croke Park. This will be the fourth semi-final meeting between the Munster rivals in seven years, with the Kingdom comfortably winning the three previous encounters. With the exception of last year’s All-Ireland final, Kerry-Cork games have come nowhere close to filling Croke Park, and it had been rumoured that the latest clash could be switched to either Killarney or Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where full houses would be guaranteed. But this has been firmly ruled out by Brennan, who said: "It’s fair to raise questions about where this game will be played, but All-Ireland semi-finals are for Croke Park.
