Rebels burst Tyrone's bubble - Sunday, August 23, 2009
Cork are through to the 2009 All-Ireland SFC final after beating Tyrone by 1-13 to 0-11 in a one-sided semi-final at Croke Park.
The Rebels were magnificent throughout and won with plenty to spare despite playing with 14 men for 40 minutes. Tyrone lost key man Shaun Cavanagh to illness just before the throw-in and could never overcome that blow.
The losers were on the ropes from the start and were never let settle into their stride. The winners, in contrast, could afford the luxury of 14 wides as 55,000 spectators witnessed a definite changing of the guard.
Packed with power, pace and passion, Cork totally dominated the first half to lead by 1-9 to 0-7 at the break, with Daniel Goulding claiming the goal after seven minutes. Tyrone were out of sorts in the first half but were handed a possible lifeline when Cork midfielder Alan O'Connor was sent off on the half hour.
