Two changes to Cork side for Galway clash - Thursday, July 16, 2009
Cork manager Denis Walsh has made two changes to his team for Saturday's All-Ireland SHC Phase 3 qualifier against Galway at Semple Stadium in Thurles (throw-in 7pm). Team captain John Gardiner has returned to full fitness after overcoming a back injury. He will start instead of Graham Callanan, while Patrick Horgan has been added to the attack in place of Tadhg Og Murphy. Horgan was in impressive form in the qualifier win over Offaly, scoring 1-05 as a first half substitute. Ben O'Connor has also been included in the starting fifteen to face Galway. He sustained a hamstring injury in the Rebels' 3-19 to 1-12 victory over Offaly two weeks ago but despite doubts over his fitness, he is expected to start

Rebels pick Limerick pockets - Sunday, July 05, 2009
Limerick took the fight to Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh but the Rebels somehow managed to eke out a 2-6 to 0-11 victory. Cork did nothing to enhance their reputation as potential All-Ireland winners as their plucky Division Four opponents stood toe-to-toe with them and were unlucky not to claim a historic provincial crown. Goals were the difference in the end: Donncha O'Connor and match-winner Daniel Goulding (1-3) registered the decisive majors in either half, while Stephen Lavin's effort for the losers in the first half flashed inches wide. O'Connor's first-half three-pointer arrived from a suspect penalty as the winners scored just three times in that period and five times after the break. But Limerick themselves raised only three flags after the turnaround, as their brave, brave effort came unstuck. The underdogs had dominated possession and outbattled the winners throughout, but Cork were more economical and that was enough to see them through to the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

O hAilpin brace eases Rebels through - Sunday, July 05, 2009
Aisake O hAilpin struck for two goals while substitute Pat Horgan weighed in with a goal and five points as Cork eased to victory in last night's All-Ireland SHC Qualifier at Tullamore. The visitors had been expected to stride on from a very promising second-half performance against Tipperary but they never reached those heights. The squandermania that cost them so dearly that day has not been eradicated either, as they finished with 16 wides, nine of those coming in the opening period. They appeared to be playing within themselves in the opening half and without showing a whole lot moved into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead when Pa Cronin fired over after Ben and Jerry O'Connor had combined well. Offaly's sizeable attack was causing some unease though amongst the Cork rearguard, where only Shane O'Neill and Sean Og O hAilpin looked comfortable.

O'Connor in for Cork - Wednesday, July 01, 2009
Kieran O'Connor has been drafted into the Cork half back line for Sunday's Munster SFC final against Limerick at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. O'Connor has been given the nod ahead of Ger Spillane to replace the suspended Noel O'Leary in the only change from the side that defeated Kerry in the semi-final replay. O'Leary and Kerry's Paul Galvin were both sent off on straight red cards following an off-the-ball incident during the first half of that game. The long-serving John Miskella has won his battle to be fit and lines out at right half back, while the towering Michael Cussen has to be content with a place on the subs bench once again.

Murphys debut for Rebels - Wednesday, July 01, 2009
Shane Murphy and Tadhg Og Murphy will make their championship debuts for Cork in Saturday's All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Offaly at Tullamore. They are included in a team that shows three changes from that which lost narrowly to Tipperary in the Munster SHC quarter-final. Erin's Own clubman Shane Murphy replaces Conor O'Sullivan at left corner back, with Tadhg Og Murphy coming in to partner Tom Kenny at midfield. Jerry O'Connor moves to right half forward with Pa Cronin taking over from Niall McCarthy at centre forward.

Rebels regain title - Friday, June 26, 2009
Cork regained the Munster JFC crown at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last night following an emphatic victory over Clare. The success is a further boost to the Rebels who have already claimed the All-Ireland under 21 title this year and are gearing up for a Munster senior final meeting with Limerick. Fielding a vastly experienced line-up that included four of this year's All-Ireland under 21 winners, the home side were always in control against a game but limited Clare team. Cork got off to a flyer when Ciaran Sheehan, who is soon to embark on an Aussie Rules career, goaled after just 20 seconds, and they went on to lead by 1-11 to 0-5 at half-time.
